Diabetes Education

Diabetes is a disease where the body does not properly produce, or does not produce enough insulin. According to the American Diabetes Association, this disease affects 20.8 million children and adults in the United States. Of that number, 6.2 million people are unaware that they have the disease.

How does Howard County Medical Center help in the fight against diabetes?

They provide education that is certified through the American Diabetes Association! Diabetes Education Self-Management classes are available either “one on one” or in group settings. Francine Rasmussen, RN and Registered Dietitian, Jill Paulsen each teach these classes.

When are the classes?

These classes are scheduled at the convenience of the patient. HCCH is willing to work around your schedule.

Where are the classes located?

At Howard County Medical Center

What is the cost of these classes?

There is a cost associated with self-management diabetes education classes; however, this can be billed through both insurance and Medicare. It is the hospital’s suggestion to check with your insurance company regarding this coverage.

How do I Join?

Interested patients should contact their local physician for a referral to the program.

What can I expect to Learn?

• The disease process
• Appropriate Medication
• Good exercise habits
• Glucometer Teaching
• Sick-Day Care
• Nutritional Information & Much, Much More!

I already did the initial classes. Is there anything else I can do?

Yes! There is ongoing education that is available to those patients who already received the initial training! Again, you are able to check with your insurance company to see what is covered in your situation! Interested patients can contact Jill or Francine directly by calling 308-754-4421!
