Swingbed

The term Swing Bed refers to a Medicare program that allows the use of rural hospitals beds to provide skilled rehabilitation, or long term extended care services. This provides for ease of access to Physicians and Physician Assistants, 24-hour RN supervision, and a high staff to patient ratio for all levels of patient care! Howard County Medical Center has contracts with many area Hospice agencies, which allows us to provide compassionate end-of-life care.

The Swing Bed program offers a full range of services that include rehabilitation after a stroke, hip or knee replacement surgery, IV Medication or nutrition therapy, strength training, wound therapy, and regulation of medications.

The Swing Bed program is located on the regular patient floor at Howard County Medical Center. Patients that have had surgery at a different facility are still welcome to receive rehabilitation at Howard County so that they may be closer to friends and family. Patients interested in this option should give both HCCH and the hospital where the procedure is being performed prior notice of their wishes.

If you have questions about the Swing Bed program, please call Linda Schacht, RN, Swing Bed Coordinator at 308-754-4421, ext 290.
